Educator and former school principal Dr Briony Scott has officially commenced as the new Chief Executive Officer of Manly-based children’s charity Royal Far West.
Dr Scott began in the role on Monday, 4 May, following the departure of former CEO Jacqueline Emery at the end of 2025.
Best known for her leadership roles at Roseville College and Wenona School in North Sydney, Dr Scott brings more than three decades of experience across education and community sectors.
She was named Principal of the Year (Non-Government) in 2022 and was also recognised by the Australian Financial Review as one of the five most powerful people in Australian education that same year.
Focus on Rural Child Health
Her appointment comes as Royal Far West continues expanding support services for children living in rural and remote Australia through its long-term 2030 strategy.
Based in Manly, the charity provides developmental, mental health and wellbeing services to children and families in country communities, both in person and through telehealth programs.
Royal Far West Chair Joan Treweeke OAM said Dr Scott’s background in education and youth wellbeing aligned closely with the organisation’s mission.
Dr Scott said she saw the role as an opportunity to further strengthen access to early intervention and support services for children and families living outside metropolitan areas.
Overseeing the Next Chapter at South Steyne
Dr Scott will also oversee the final stages of the Royal Far West Neighbourhood redevelopment at South Steyne in Manly.
Alongside her education leadership career, Dr Scott also serves as Deputy Chair of cancer hospital Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at Camperdown. Her involvement in the health sector followed her own battle with lung cancer in 2015.
More Than 30,000 People Supported Last Year
Royal Far West, founded in 1924, operates from Wentworth Street in Manly and provides health, disability and education services for children up to the age of 12 living in regional and remote communities.
In the 2025 financial year, the charity supported more than 30,000 children, parents, carers, educators and health professionals across four states, working with more than 500 schools and preschools in 387 rural and remote communities.
